El Chorro is one of the legendary climbing areas of Spain. Famous for its iconic gorge, it has suffered from rumours of access problems over the years. Meanwhile the local climbers have been steadily developing the areas around the gorge with brilliant routes, both single and multi-pitch. Access is no longer a problem and the whole area is now thriving as a major destination for climbers, walkers and visitors attracted to the Caminito - the redeveloped walkway down the Gorge.

Published by Rockfax this rock climbing guidebook for El Chorro describes all the bolted sports routes to be found in the huge limestone gorge of El Chorro and the surrounding area. El Chorro is located in the hills 50km inland from Malaga and is one of Spain’s most famous sport climbing destinations. This guidebook details the 10 major sport climbing areas within El Chorro including Les Frontales, The central gorge, Los Cotos and Makinodromo. Also included are the surrounding crags of Mijas, Turon, Desplomilandia, Valle de Abdalajis, El Torcal, Villanueva de Cauche, Poza de la Mona, Puerto Rico, and Pinares de San Anton. In total over 1,500 individual routes are described across a good range of grades.

All the routes are shown on colour photo topos, along with a short description. At the start of each crag there is a location map, and a good description giving a general overview of the crag and type of rock climbing to be found there. At the start of the guidebook there is comprehensive information about the logistics of climbing in El Chorro including how to get there, accommodation, and eating options.

Published by Rockfax in December 2018 this guidebook is in English text throughout. It has been fully revised and is now nearly double the size of the previous edition that was published in 2008. It also provides the latest information on accessing the routes in the central gorge by either using the now refurbished Caminito del Rey walkway or via a beautiful and spectacular walk.
